Digestion: A Key Component to Long Term Health
Why Healthy Digestion?
“All disease begins in the gut” – Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, (Hippocrates was agreed to have been born 460BC and died 375bc
Today, research is adding much to back up this statement:
including that your gut is being considered the 2nd brain (if possibly not your first). Did you know, there are 5x more neurons in the gut then in the human spinal cord (which has 100 million) and much more then the actual brain itself?
So what is the gut doing (or should be doing) that makes it so important to your long term health?
1. digestion is designed to get your body the nutrients it needs to keep you healthy, happy, energized, and strong (such things as: healthy bone structure, healthy mouth (less dentist visits, wouldn’t that be nice :), energy to last your day, a focused mind, healthy skin (just to name a few)
2. gastroenterologists have stated to say: “Our two brains ‘talk’ to each other, so therapies that help one may help the other,” doctors are now starting to see findings of what happens in the gut (diarrhea, stomach upset, constipation, IBS etc..) can trigger big emotional shifts and can be contributors to anxiety and depression (as just even a few years ago, allopathic medicine thought it was the other way around).
3. the digestive system is (suppose to be) a natural barrier of protection of pathogens (bacteria, yeast, etc) that come in through our food and beverages
4. the digestive system (colon) is a filtering system to eliminate toxins, if toxins are not properly excreted, the toxins will get recycled back into your blood stream. A build-up of toxins over time could be a contributor to a number of ailments such as: addictions (sugar/alcohol), allergies, anxiety, auto-immune disorders, candida, brain-dysfunction, dental issues, heart health, bone health, hormone health, heart burn/GERD, hypo/hyperglycemia, joint inflammation, leaky gut, high cholesterol, migraines, parasitic infection, h-pylori, sleep apnea, type II diabetes, rapid aging (JUST TO NAME A FEW)
