Pilates Info: An In-Office Pilates Exercise

One of the many great things about Pilates is that it helps balance out the overuse and underuse of muscles to relieve daily aches and pains. When sitting at a desk for multiple hours at a time, the combined lack of movement and constant forward sitting position causes your head, neck, shoulders, upper, mid, low back and hips to take a beating. Once you have an understanding how to engage your “Core,” it is quite easy to turn those muscles on to put into action anywhere you are at, including the office.

The following Pilates exercise, Single Knee Lifts, has been modified so you can practice it while sitting at your desk, Use this move to turn those core muscles on and start working on balancing the use of muscles to improve your posture.

CoeDynamics Studio News: Meet Your New Teacher Brittany!

What is your favorite color? Burgundy is my favorite color.

What is your favorite past time activity? I am very passionate about oil painting; I love the feeling of relief and excitement of transposing my imagination on canvas.

What is your favorite food? I have a bunch of favorite foods— too many to choose just one!

What is your favorite Pilates exercise? My favorite exercise is the double straight leg stretch. It exercise works the abs very deeply and always reminds me of the importance of initiating movement from the core muscles.

Why do you teach Pilates? I enjoy teaching Pilates because it is perfectly suited to so many things I deeply care about: injury prevention, alignment, posture, focus, flow of movement and keeping active through life.
